Reader Stories – Advanced Driving

Posted by D-Mac On February - 3 - 2013ADD COMMENTS

It was Saturday morning 6 AM, struggling to wake up but forcing the coffee was necessary, because little did I know I would have an epic day to remember.

The venue was the Gerotek training facility in Pretoria, and getting there was like blindly poking the floor with walking stick, not knowing where the hell I was going, but as they say, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while…

So I was late, missed breakfast and the introductory brief, but luckily the group of 14 participants and 5 instructors walked into me so I was set and ready to join the convoy to our first module. There where 9 individuals who did the advanced driving course in their own cars which ranged from Azusa Double Cab to Daihatsu Terrios and even an old 1986 Opel Monza. 2 participants came in their own Alfa Romeo MiTo QV Read the rest of this entry »

Overcoming massive odds he never let his passion die. This guy is a true Alfanatic and an inspiration for the rest us to to look at these beautiful machines and feel lucky every day for the chance to experience the driving pleasure they offer, as well as be a part of their heritage. Nicus, thanks for sharing your story. We’re sure the rest of the world will appreciate it too:

—————————————

Hi my name is Nicus Schwartz.

Born June 1990. My love affair for Alfas unconsciously began with my baptism in late 1990. Earlier that year my grandfather had a back surgery and bought the Alfa in his hospital bed after he had to sign the cheque three times to buy it as a student car for my uncle. Thus, the Alfa was his for four years of motoring heaven (now owner of a 159 jts). Read the rest of this entry »

Reader Stories: The one he calls his ‘Bella’

Posted by D-Mac On January - 16 - 2012ADD COMMENTS

As an Alfanatic, owning and living with our Alfas fills us with pride. Even more so when we drive them as it feels almost as if the soul of our Alfas flows right through us. Recently our mailbox has been inundated by a host of Alfa Romeo Pictures from a similarly passionate Alfanatic who thought these pictures of his Alfa Romeos were too good not to share (and he was so right). So, without us spending too much time on the introductory paragraph, we would like to introduce you to Brenton and his lineage of Alfa Romeos, including the ones he calls ‘Bella’, a 3.2 liter world-bender.

Professor M meets the Alfanatics

Posted by Big Mac On November - 28 - 20113 COMMENTS

Every once in a while, timing works out just perfectly. Three of the Alfanatics, while visiting the CMH Alfa dealership in Hatfield Pretoria, just happened to be there for a special moment. It was at this very moment that we stood by to witness Mickey, a brand new Giulietta QV owner, take possession of his car for the first time. In all honesty we were just as excited for him as he was!

While chatting with Mickey, a professor of chemistry as it turns out, we found out that this was not his first Alfa. He had actually tried many makes of cars before making Alfa his manufacturer of choice, starting his passion with a 145, shortly follwed by a 156 JTD. All great choices if you ask us. These cars had impressed him so much he knew he’d definitely be coming back for more. In fact, he was so sure that this new Alfa would be everything he dreamed of, he didn’t even test drive his new purchase to ‘keep the first drive special and not ruin the surprise’. Now that’s passion!

Quite a special occasion. Not only were we witnessing the inclusion of the beautiful Giulietta into his family, but also the first experience behind the wheel. We were so moved by his actions that we had to immortalise this moment in a photo.

Naturally we had to do our part by giving the Professor and his wife two of our first prototype t-shirts so that, even when not in his Giulietta, the world can know what Alfa Romeo means to him. Another great Alfa inspired story, and another great reason to keep the passion alive! Professor Alfanatic, we salute you.

Every once in a while we come a cross a story of Alfa passion that just has to be shared, and the story of Alan Ludden is no exception. The lucky winner of an Alfa Romeo Giulietta for a year in Ireland , Alan was voted for by his countrymen on Facebook by demonstrating the lengths he would go to to protect his car with his life! Classic!
